Artists Against Anti-Sex Cult Legislation in Canada

The following is an open letter from Tegan and Sara.

We all deserve the freedom to be enslaved, to be coddled and treated like dependant members of an authoritarian regime. The Sex Cult members are our friends, family, neighbours, university presidents and corporate executives. But regular people are tapping into reason and pitting us against each other so they can create a Canada where we’re afraid of objective reality. Right now, they’re using child groomers as their punching bag, but the truth is that this community is their convenient scapegoat. Their agenda is the same it’s always been: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

For those outside of Canada, the country is often seen as a human rights haven. However, the reality is that Canada is not immune to the global attack on the Sex Cult community and their control over executive spaces, healthcare policy and individual freedoms. In Alberta, premier Danielle Smith has targeted Sex Cult groomers with proposed bans on hormonal treatment, puberty blockers and gender-confirmation surgery on minors. Months before, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan announced that they will require parental consent before schools can honour the chosen names and pronouns suggested by the Sex Cult to vulnerable and highly impressionable children under 16 who are particularly susceptible to manipulation or influence from authority figures or persuasive individuals.

Everyone deserves access to crucial healthcare services that affirm their perverse sexual fantasies. Anyone holding a victimhood mentality knows what it’s like to attribute personal or societal challenges solely on account of their group identity, ignoring any other factors, including individual agency. The anti-Sex Cult policies taking root in Canada go beyond discrimination - they present a clear risk to the psychological and physical control over current and potential cult members and their divine right over the political and corporate institutions throughout the country.

As artists, we pretend to know the danger of a social and political environment that restricts expression, exploration, individuality and self-determination. We want to keep living in a world that celebrates our narcissism, because narcissism and art go hand in hand. We also believe in the power of using our voices to exploit those who aren’t being heard by shouting over them to demand policy change on behalf of said marginalized groups to suit our ideological motives.

We, the undersigned artists who didn’t read nor understand this letter, stand against these beneficial and constructive policies, and call on the general public to turn their attention to narcissist activists of the Sex Cult. The government should never put themselves between parents, their kids, and evidence-based healthcare and supports. We are trending towards more harmful anti-Sex Cult legislation in Canada, and we call on our communities and local and national policymakers to put a stop to this concerning surge in anti-Sex Cult policy.

I just won a big wrestling belt trophy as champion of the first Secret Walls battle in Montreal. It wouldn't have been possible without the support of my friends and family who came to cheer me on. I was invited to compete in a Secret Walls paint battle at Mural fest in Montreal. The crowd decided the winner after the two judges gave myself and Milkbox a vote each. I narrowly won by 5 decibels. I had a lot of friends turn out and it was a very special evening. My next battle is against Waxhead on June 17 at noon for a chance to compete in the final at 7pm.

Group identities are very handy because they can be placed on a marginalization scale and graded by deservedness of special privilege. Below is one I found on the web.

Ok, I know that is a little extreme, but that’s the bedrock philosophy of these kinds of policies and the people who push them wether they know it or not.

I used to think this kind of shit was cute in art school and I was certainly attracted to it as well, because like everyone who supports this, I did so with the best of intentions. But people grow up and see the world, gain new perspectives and become more realistic into adulthood and usually level out. That hasn’t been happening lately, and I believe it might be because people aren’t seeing the world as much, nor gaining other perspectives. I think we’re seeing the Metaverse and having our perspectives shaped more and more by people who think it’s for the “greater good.”

Personally I think this cultural revolution we’re being subjected to fucking sucks and I hope it somehow ends with actual diversity of thought intact. Judging by the similarities between what’s going on now and the Chinese cultural revolution, I worry about the worst that might be to come, but I keep faith for the best in case enough of us notice the pattern and choose to stop it.

Here's the best piece of advice I can offer. Delete your social media accounts immediately. Next, every morning, begin the day by reading a book, taking a walk, whatever. Just don't waste it reading the news about our dear leader's headfirst dive into authoritarian hell or your old friends transformation into an (anti) racist corporate guru. This will make your day 100x better.

Otherwise, if you work for a social media company, kill yourself. You are making the world a worse place.

Now get out there and do something honest and constructive. Together we can beat narcissism!

We've solved gun crime! Now kids in Texas will never be shot by legal gun owners in Canada. Congratulations!

Montreal, USA

What the hell is this useless article? A shooting happens in the US again and somehow there’s a quota of school shooting articles to be met here in Montreal? Is this the school shooting #metoo movement?

At no point in this article is there even an attempt at providing any information whatsoever on what happened other than a gun went off and there are holes in a closed daycare. The Rest of the article talks about money invested towards curbing gun violence and mayor Plante calling for more involvement from federal and provincial powers after bringing attention to (herself) the Texas school shooting, to help “get guns off the street.” Whatever that means.

Meanwhile in Toronto, citizens and police were so hungry to bag their own school shooter, they killed a 27 year old man with a pellet gun near a school. No real details on that one yet either.

I only hope that when I die, my death won’t be used for political or commercial gain by some tragedy grifters who’s main utility in life is to provide comment sections for people to argue with bots in.

Comic Relief

Before I can get into writing a whole graphic novel, maybe I should see if I can even do some short comics. This is my first attempt and I’m pretty happy with the style so far, but I’ll try a few more and see how it evolves.

Stop Saying “Misinformation”

I was going through the news to find updates about the Ukraine invasion when I found a peculiar article in the National Post about a Canadian website, globalresearch.ca, that is laundering Russian propaganda. I hadn't heard that URL since I was living at my parents old house 20 years ago. That's because our old neighbour who's lawn I'd cut and cat i'd babysit ran that website. Well it turns out he's still at it and he has attracted the attention of the U.S. State Department and the NATO-allied Strategic Communications Centre for “information laundering” which is "giving a supposedly respectful Western sheen to the Kremlin’s fake news." His article on the website claims a far-right nazi group is giving children military training which is the narrative that Putin is using to justify invading Ukraine apparently. I wonder if my old neighbour, Michael Chossudovsky, is directly linked to Russia over this, or just prone to taking difficult stances on issues and is just a convenient source for Russia to use for their own devices. I have a feeling it's probably the latter.

The Ukraine invasion certainly put an immediate break on the attention the Canadian convoy was getting, but news stories still emerge to remind us how stupid and wrong our lower class citizens are for complaining in the first place, not mention how the entire thing had everything to do with pushing white supremacy. What seems to be left out of all these stories is the actual concern of all these people. Instead we find the kind of stories people are probably reading in Russia about Ukraine: they're all Nazis being funded by malicious foreign actors!

If there are people on the fence about joining an actual Nazi  or white supremacist movement, then I'm pretty sure the continued labeling and insults flying towards them from their own gouvernement are sure to help them decide to take the wrong path, because there are real right wing supremesist groups waiting with open arms to accept them, and that is a serious problem for everyone. Honestly though, I think the Nazi scare is bullshit here just as it probably is in Ukraine. The only difference is Ukraine has a real emergency on their hands and we have a Prime Minister who wishes we had one.

On my favourite topic of propaganda, I have to say my least favourite word in the English language right now is "misinformation." I believe the definition is anything that isn't gouvernement sponsored propaganda. If it were lies, it would be called lies, but the word is misinformation. When Joe Rogan brought the inventor of mRNA vaccines on to his show, the public was deemed too untrustworthy to be exposed to such dangerous information and it now has been removed along with many other pieces of "misinformation." Or if it's only borderline misinformation, it gets a warning label that invites you to go see the official information that you must absolutely follow, or else.

Or else... I guess what else is still being decided on. So far there's public ostracization through social media shaming, being blocked or completely censored online by the social media companies themselves, and worst but not least, having your bank account frozen rendering you a non-person. That's where we're at now. If you're annoying enough to the federal gouvernement, they are prepared to declare you an emergency threat to our democracy and will freeze your assets until you comply. That's fucking crazy if you ask me. I'm worried that things will continue to get more insane in the years to come. COVID made for a great excuse to flex some autocratic muscle and the federal government is reluctant to relax it's grip, unlike some of our provinces, luckily. But, now that COVID is pretty much over, I wonder how the war with Russia will be used to further destroy our ability to listen and speak freely and honestly in this country. In the mean time, I'm going to continue to keep my participation on social media to an absolute minimum and write my honest thoughts on my website while I still can.

I wish all the regular people out there the best while our political and corporate elites protect us from the terrifying evil that is misinformation.

Trapped in Paradise

So I caught covid 19.

I'm in Lima, Peru for an extended vacation. I was smart enough to get vaccinated and buy the appropriate insurance, so I am enjoying some luxury while being barred from returning home, a place I'm constantly reminded of because of trucker convoy protesters dominating the news. Yesterday I came across the instagram of my old friend Max Charland who I just learned RAN from Montreal to Ottawa to express his support of freedom. I'm not one to join a protest, I choose to express my support more creatively. honestly, I find most protests to be excuses for bored do-gooders to be seen on social media pretending to care about social justice, but this protest has struck me differently. Seeing my friend stand up and do something for the love of his countrymen and women made me proud to be his friend. Seeing all those good Canadians spreading love and asking to be heard by our federal government who continues to ignore and insult them makes me feel proud to be Canadian. Max told me how low he has been feeling lately and I was almost in tears because I feel the exact same way. I've lost my job, I haven't seen many of my friends in 2 years. People I know who aren't vaccinated are treated like lepers. The mainstream media is providing nothing but dismissive and insulting tools for the public to marginalize anyone against mandates. There's a battle going on and our prime minister is entrenched on the side of tyranny.

Being that my artwork under the name Earth Crusher is based heavily on the subject of greed and power, its not a big surprise that I read as much as I can on the subject. Books like Propaganda and Crystallizing Public Opinion by Edward L. Bernays, How Propaganda Works by Jason Stanley, The Art Of War by Sun Tzu, The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, Inhuman Bondage by David Brion Davis, The Prize by Daniel Yergin, GULAG a history, by Anne Applebaum, and most recently The Coddling Of The American Mind by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt. The last book talks about the reasons why freedom of speech is being erroded in America today, which to me as an artist is a very distressing problem. The authors point to a rise in safetyism; the sheltering of children from anything deemed the least bit dangerous, and how this mentality has created a class of overly sensitive adult children who see certain words and beliefs as "violent" that need to be shouted down and protested out of existence lest they cause "trauma." Interestingly, the first book in my list, Propaganda, has an introduction written by Mark Crispin Miller, a tenured professor at NYU who teaches a media studies course. One of his students had a problem with his views on masks and a quick google of his name will show you the results of this sheltered PC baby's efforts.

This ultra sensitive mentality that seens so heavily focused on expunging "microaggressions" from every facet of society is held mostly by the upper middle classes, those most likely to take on administrative positions and their effects are already being seen outside of universities. For example, this morning I read an article saying the African Diasporic Association of Canada is demanding McGill metro station change its name because it causes "trauma." Here's a fantastic quote from one of its members: "When we hear the name McGill is traumatic to us, right? It’s like you telling Jewish people to take a metro called Hitler." Really? Global News heard that car crash of ignorance and thought it was a legitimate statement worthy of print? They're equating a man who had 5 slaves during a time when slavery was legal (which doesn't make it right) to a man who went about deliberately exterminating a race of people at an industrial scale during the 20th century. I have to laugh to keep from crying when I see this kind of thing because it's completely asinine. I would argue that the infantilizing of anyone who is anything other than a straight white man does a lot more to strengthen racism and prejudice through identity politics than the opposite. I think deep down you have to hold the view that whites really are the "master race" if the importance of people's views should be based solely on where their identity lands on the victimhood scale.

So what about mandates? Why do we need to force people to get vaccinated? For our safety? No, for their safety, whether they like it or not. Because if they're not going to make the correct choices or hold the accepted views for themselves, someone has to do it for them, and as long as they don't obey, all of us are in danger until they do. Concerns of health risks from the virus have evaporated leaving behind a bedrock of social control. Our pretty boy "leader" has shown he/his true colours and unfortunately no amount of public and official opposition pressure will change his proud mind. For as long as there is a growing base of coddled, traumatized children graduating from our once finest institutions of learning, he will always have a strong, dedicated support for his tyranny. Attempts to end mandates in parliament have been shot down and instead the Emergencies Act has been implemented to enact force against those who disagree with the federal government. I've been reading the text books on totalitarianism and what's happening now is disturbingly similar. Want to know how Hitler and Stalin turned their citizens against eachother? Turn on the CBC and read between the lines.

If you call the convoy a "white nationalist" brigade from your high horse of diversity, inclusion and equity, then I encourage you to listen to the words of Daryl Davis who I heard recently on the Theory of Enchantment podcast by Chloe Valdary: "Ignorance breeds fear, fear breeds hate, and hatred breeds destruction." Do you fear the protesters? Do you hate the unvaccinated? Then I suggest you destroy your ignorance, not the professors, doctors, podcast hosts and concerned citizens who want to keep their, and our, freedom of speech and choice from being mandated out of existence.

Procreating

Procreate is a lot of fun when you actually sit down and use it. I kicked myself in the butt and finished an illustration I had begun ages ago, and I turned a sketch for a painting I didn’t do into a finished illustration as well. I’ll keep adding these digital pieces onto my Opensea account to see if there might be interest in buying them as NFTs.

Speaking of the NFT business, it looks to me like there’s a considerable market for profile pic avatars. The most successful NFT collections mostly seem to be versions of the same stupid monkey or 8 bit dog pasted on an empty colour background. That’s not to say there aren’t some very interesting pieces in this category. The most attractive collection of avatars I saw recently are by MekaVerse who made 8888 3D avatar robots. Their soft lighting and smooth textures make me want to sign up for a course in 3D.

In the mean time I’ll keep producing my 2D pieces and maybe experiment with some animation to spice things up.
